Charlton's Secret Romance makes no secret as to its stance on "aggressive" women who instigate the marriage proposal, as evidence in the last issue of the series...

It's funny, because when I was a kid, it was always assumed in fiction that this was a cliffhanger moment. That is, that the gal might actually say no. But in real life I suspect the yes/no ratio is something like 100-1. Note as well that the gal does not suffer anything by proposing other than to let her guy know that she will accept his proposal.
ReplyDeleteIs that a medallion around her beau's neck, or a transistor radio??
ReplyDeleteI thought that was very cute (not to mention the love-struck girl's skirt, yow!). Not a bad looking kiss in that last panel, either!
ReplyDeleteAnd I had the same quesion as Ghost. What the hell is that thing? I was around in '76 (oh, yeah, baby!); and I don't remember radios as necklaces every being hip.
Pat: I have known a few people to say no... that usually ends things right there! In this case, it seems like a casual little slip up on her part, but you are right -- it all works out!
ReplyDeleteHate to break it to you guys, but it really does look like a radio around his neck. I am gonna hunt high and low for the inspiration behind it! That skirt is great, isn't it, Mykal?
Jacque: Amy feels that, perhaps, the radio-medallion is a combination accessory much like the calculator-wristwatch.
ReplyDeleteDid you know that I wear a calculator-wristwatch? You probably didn't, but now you do!
ReplyDeleteActually, we did. It was visible in the photos where you made the recipe contest winner.
ReplyDeleteand BTW, EGAD!:

You guys are incredibly observant! And holy cow! I can't believe you found that! That is so wondrously cool!!! And its an owl no less! Good detective work. Got some cash to drop? Then Amy can buy a red ruffly skirt and you guys can recreate this fine tale.
ReplyDeleteJacque: I'm afraid that if Amy bought a ruffly red skirt, Mykal Banta would don adult diapers and drive all night from Florida to come woo her.
ReplyDeleteHaha! yeah, Justin was really diggin' the character's dress/skirt thing too!

ReplyDelete(damn kids)
Look at those word balloon pointers - that's not a radio, it's a Bronze Age Hawkings voice box. Poor guy ...
